January 2022: Off to a good start

2022 has started off very well for me. I’m saying this, not to rub it in for people who are having a hard time, but because I really needed it and I’m grateful.

I want this year to be my best year. Each year, I want to improve. Starting the year off with positivity has helped me stay motivated to do that.

Now for the good parts:

  • Good Habit #1
I’m writing a little bit every day. I’ve missed a couple days, yes. But the point is that I’m getting back on the horse and not letting one day become two days.
  • Good Habit #2
I’m working out again and taking care of my health. Since the heart attack in September, it’s been a hard road for me (mentally, not physically). Struggling with panic attacks at every flutter or minor pain, I finally gave up the fear and decided to LIVE again. I will not be imprisoned by fear. I lived with it for too long to continue that nasty habit.

My advice-and take it for what it is worth, I’m not better than anyone else-is to BREATHE through the stress and the pain. ALLOW yourself to feel it and then LET IT GO. Solve what you can solve, take action on what you can take action on, and let GO of what you have no control over. Stop wasting time on things not worth your time. MANIFEST positivity in your own life on the DAILY. Minute by minute, if you’re like me and self-doubt, suffer with imposter syndrome, depression, anxiety … you have to learn to take a min to yourself and deal with it.

I sit in a small space, close my eyes and breathe. While I do that, I talk myself through it as if I were talking a friend through it. I tell myself I’m allowed to have the feelings I have but I’m not allowed to wallow in them. Find a solution and change the path, or let it go.
For those of you who are interested, I’ve created a private Discord server and I’m inviting ANYONE who is interested in Alpha Reading my work in progress.

The only rules I have are: You must be active, you must be willing to give constructive criticism, and understand that I’m human and will want to shut down when I get overwhelmed. The group is for anyone who wants to be not only a cheerleader, but willing and able to give honest feedback on the work I give out to read. Oh…and obviously, you must have discord.

Anyone who is interested can comment below or email me.

  1. Ha! First! Well 2022 is also going to be a game changer for me. I have been at Warrant Officer Basic’s Course for a week now and my internal life-rhythm mechanism is all out of whack. New schedule, getting up early, new chow hall (my gut really hates this food), let alone not eating or workout when I want. And we haven’t even started the real shit yet. All we have heard so far is officership, officership and more officership. They can’t throw that word out enough. This really is a different dynamic than enlisted professional military education where everything is structured and laid out for you. Here you are left more to your own devices to manage your time and fill whitespace with anything you can. You can study, eat, workout, point is it is up to you to manage your time and prepare yourself for success. As you will be expected to once you hit the fleet . . . again. Boot camp 2.0. I’m looking forward to this new chapter of and I’m eager to see how we all turn out at the end of 2022. Give it Hell!
